The Dragon who Never Sleeps

A giant serpent-dragon commissioned by Four of Swords Theatre for their immersive, site-specific production of Jason and the Argonauts at Exmouth Festival, Devon, 2015. One animator operated the head from within, whilst two other puppeteers animated the 3m long tail! The Dragon who Never Sleeps commanded his own mist-filled lair as he guarded the golden fleece, refusing to sleep, and his heavy duty cardboard-sculpted tail turned out to be a menacing weapon as it beat Jason and pinned him to the floor! The final photo shows Medea, played by Sarah White, singing the dragon the lullaby which finally gets him to fall asleep. Materials used: cardboard, cornflour paste, bamboo, willow, fabric, acrylic paints.
