Puppet created as a prototype for a harpy puppet-making project with students on Plymouth College of Art’s BA(hons) Costume Design and Associated Crafts. A harpy is a mythical creature which generally has a woman’s head and an animal’s body (mine breaks the mould by featuring a man’s head!) This puppet also had a cameo role in Four of Swords Theatre’s Jason and the Argonauts (in which I also featured as Atalanta the Huntress), performed at the Exmouth Festival, Devon, 2015 (see also Large Scale Puppets section) Materials used: sculpted newspaper, papier mache, bamboo, feathers etc. and painted with acrylic paints.
