Multi-sensory Storytelling Panels

DSCF0046Multi-sensory installation created for an teachers’ INSET session at Woodlands Special School, Plymouth, in January 2014. I was asked to provide the teachers with ideas for creating multi-sensory classroom displays and environments for their students, who have a range of physical disabilities and learning difficulties (see Education: Special Education: Woodlands Inset day), and I created this ‘storytelling panel’ to demonstrate a range of different techniques and ideas. The set features embedded multi-sensory panels (fur, feathers, etc), pop-up book style/paper automata animation, a pop-out hand puppet, and an interactive largescale jigsaw. It was extremely fun to make! Materials: cardboard, collaged William Morris patterns, acrylic paints, felts, wool.
